The state government made it official on Wednesday: finalising Rajiv Gandhis name not only for the Bandra-Worli Sea Link but for the entire stretch of links under the Western Freeway Project from Versova to Nariman Point.

The state government made it official on Wednesday: finalising Rajiv Gandhis name not only for the Bandra-Worli Sea Link but for the entire stretch of links under the Western Freeway Project from Versova to Nariman Point.

The state cabinet and the PWD cleared a government resolution that the entire chain from Versova to Bandra,then to Worli,then to Haji Ali,and finally to Nariman Point,will be named Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link.

The government is keen the take up work on the next two phases (Worli-Haji Ali and Haji Ali-Nariman Point,both over the sea) simultaneously on a BOT basis,PWD Minister Chhagan Bhujbal said in a TV interview.

NCP president Sharad Pawar had suggested Rajivs name only for the Bandra-Worli stretch. This had sparked a political controversy,with the Shiv Sena and the BJP demanding Veer Savarkars name. They said his name had been decided by the pervious Sena-BJP government,but Bhujbal contested this claim.
