Pulled up but official seeks more bribe

According to the agency,the 1995 batch Indian Railway Service cadre officer was reprimanded by the Central Railway general manager barely three days ago. Yet,as soon as he returned to his office on Wednesday,he allegedly called up the complainant and asked him to make a part payment of Rs 50,000 for getting sanction for bills worth Rs 6 lakh for painting work done by him at Bhusawal division.

“Our team reached Bhusawal on Monday and laid a trap,but we had to delay action as Walia was summoned by the Mumbai office after a series of complaints,” said an investigating officer on condition of anonymity.

Walia,who was remanded in the CBI custody till June 23 by the special CBI court of Jalgaon,has allegedly confessed to the crime. The agency claimed he had been demanding money for clearing the bill though the work had been completed.

“Walia accepted the bribe in his office. While conducting searches,we found another envelope that contained Rs 55,000,which was also bribe money he had collected earlier in the day. We are investigating if he had taken money from other people as well,” said the officer.

The CBI also seized 400 gm of gold along with “incriminating materials” from his home in Bhusawal. “We also searched Walia’s office and three apartments in Nagpur,including at Raj Nagar in Sadar. He has 11 bank accounts across the country and a locker at the State Bank of India in Baroda. We are yet to go through his account details,” added the officer.
