Police want Borude declared proclaimed offender

The Mumbai Police will move the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrates Court in the coming week to declare dismissed police inspector Arun Borude.

The Mumbai Police will move the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrates Court in the coming week to declare dismissed police inspector Arun Borude, wanted by the Powai police for allegedly raping a minor,a proclaimed absconder and initiate the process of attaching his properties. Borude has been on the run since November 8,with teams of the local police and the Crime Branch trying to track him down.

“Borude’s anticipatory bail application has been rejected by the Bombay High Court. Next week we will also approach the court for declaring him a proclaimed absconder. Once this is done, the process of attaching his properties can be initiated,” Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjeev Dayal told Newsline.

“Our investigations are still on in the case, and our teams are on the lookout for Borude. There is no reason to believe that he has slipped out of the state. Since he is an officer and has served in the Crime Branch,he is well aware of the methods used by the police to trace suspects,” said Dayal.

A case was lodged after a 15-year-old victim had lodged a complaint at the Powai police station on October 21 alleging she was raped on several occasions by more than three persons at a flat in Andheri. The case came to light after the girl became pregnant and delivered a baby girl on October 17. Borude was named by arrested accused Shanta Gaikwad, who allegedly induced the minor into the flesh trade.

According to the police,Borude raped the minor girl in flat A-404 of the Emerald Co-Operative Housing Society. Borude resides in flat A-403 of the same building with his mother, wife and daughter.

On Monday, the Bombay High Court rejected Borude’s anticipatory bail application. The court held that Borude’s conduct of keeping away from the investigation which led to his dismissal put him under a cloud of suspicion.

Borude’s counsel Ashok Mundargi and advocates Vaibhav Bagade and Naveen Chomal have argued that their client was willing to face the investigation, provided the case was transferred to independent agency like the CBI.
