Patnaik suffers heart attack,hospitalised

Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik was admitted to Jaslok Hospital on Wednesday morning after he complained of chest discomfort. Hospital sources confirmed that Patnaik has suffered a heart attack soon after which he underwent angioplasty.

“He was admitted to the hospital at around 9 am today. An ECG and angiography was done soon after and followed by an angioplasty. A stent was placed in his right coronary artery. He is stable now and is in the intensive care unit. He will continue to be under observation for at least a few more days before being discharged,” said a senior official from Jaslok Hospital. Patnaik was promoted on August 24 as Director General,Maharashtra State Security Corporation.

While Home Minister RR Patil said it was a routine “transfer and promotion”,there had been political pressure on the state government to transfer him after his alleged mishandling of the August 11 Azad Maidan riots.
