Pandit to head MCA technical committee

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) junior selection committee chairman Chandrakant Pandit will head the Mumbai Cricket Associations (MCA) newly-introduced technical committee.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) junior selection committee chairman Chandrakant Pandit will head the Mumbai Cricket Associations (MCA) newly-introduced technical committee. MCA had introduced the technical committee after abolishing the Cricket Improvement Committee last season. Last year,former cricketers Balwinder Singh Sandhu,Nari Contractor,Karsan Ghavri,Nilesh Kulkarni had resigned from the CIC board after difference of opinion with other members. The former cricketers later resigned citing they were ill-treated.

The CIC was introduced in 2001 by the then MCA president Sharad Pawar mainly to give powers to former cricketers in a committee,which would be in charge of appointing coaches and other related cricketing matters.

The technical committee will now be in charge of appointing coaches and will deal with issues regarding cricket. Pandit,who happens to be the MCA managing committee member too,has earlier worked as Director of MCA indoor academy. In the MCA managing committee meeting held on Monday evening,the committee felt Pandit will be the right person for the job.

“He is experienced and is aware of Mumbai cricket. Pandit agreed to chair the technical committee and has also been associated with local cricket. Everyone agreed with his name,” an MCA official said.

MCA had also approached former Mumbai coach Praveen Amre,who is now with Pune Warriors,Ghavri and former India wicket-keeper Sameer Dighe for the post.

“Amre and Dighe have both worked with players and know what their demands are in today’s times. Their views can be of great help,” the official added.

Mumbai Ranji captain Ajit Agarkar will be a special invitee whereas well-known umpire Bomi Jamula and MCA managing committee member Deepak Patil are the other members included in the technical committee.
