Panchal takes out two with one cue

Playing in familiar surroundings,Manav Panchal touched peak form while easily winning both his Group-E league matches in the senior snooker event of the Malabar Hill Club-Maharashtra State Selection billiards and snooker tournament on Wednesday. Panchal showed absolutely no qualm in adjusting to the tables,immediately getting into rhythm to sideline Manoj Gadgill 3-1 (30-62,67-8,58-23,65-42) in a best-of-five frame round-robin league encounter played at the Malabar Hill Club billiards hall on Wednesday morning.

Panchal then returned to the table and produced an improved display as he blanked Shahbaaz Khan 3-0 (66-24,96-4,64-12) to virtually seal a berth in the pre-quarter-final knockout round from Group E. Bombay Gymkahna’s Rovin D’Souza also showed great touch as he faced little difficulty in putting across Anand Raguvanshi 3-1 (62-41,45-61,60-51,64-54) in Group-H. D’Souza continued to be in his elements as he brushed aside Sumit Saldurkar 3-1 (91-12,29-60,47-25,76-46). He is now assured of a place in the last 16 in the tournament,which is being organized by the Billiards & Snooker Association of Maharashtra (BSAM).

Meanwhile,Hasan Badami also enhanced his chances of making the next round as he tamed Mukund Bhardia 3-1 (57-54,57-43,13-63,52-31) for his second win in the tournament. He had earlier defeated Yogesh Lohiya of Pune 3-2 (82(46)-01,48-50,13-45,61-20,56-22).
