The RCF police recently arrested a 42-year-old man for allegedly stealing laptops. The accused,Mohammed Rafiq Gafur, used to steal laptops and then give it for repairing to avoid any suspicion. He would look for potential buyers at the repair shop itself and sell the laptops at a reduced price, say the police.

On March 10,one of the victims,Laxman Ramnarayan, was driving towards Govandi when his car broke down.

He stepped out and opened the bonnet of the car to check the engine when someone stole his laptop kept on the backseat. He then filed a complaint with the RCF police station.

“During our enquiries,we learnt that Gafur,a Nerul resident, was behind these incidents. We arrested him last Sunday. During interrogation,Gafur confessed to have stolen the laptops,” said assistant police inspector Rajesh Kewale.

The police have recovered Ramnarayan’s laptop from a repair shop on Lamington Road. Gafur has been remanded to judicial custody.

Kewale added that Gafur has several crimes of baglifting and theft registered against him in various police stations in the city.
