The education department is likely to announce and launch a new website by next week so that students get enough time to get a hang of internet before securing admissions in junior colleges. V Wankhede, deputy director of education,Mumbai region, said that the new website is likely to be launched between June 1 and 5. All the 600 junior colleges in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) would submit information about their colleges like number of seats available, seats available after reservation, streams and so on to the deputy director by May 30.
All X standard students will be given a printout of the courses and colleges preferences form downloaded from the website, along with the marksheet. Students can choose their stream and college preference (they can apply in maximum two streams and give preference of 150 colleges). Wankhede clarified that the entire process will be online. However,he said, they are still discussing if it could be made completely online this year itself.
Those students who have internet access and are confident of filling up the admission form without any guidance, can log on the website after results, fill up the information and submit it online. At the time of online submission, they would have to make online payment by credit card (Rs 125).
Those students seeking guidance, can fill up the form given to them at the time of the results. They can go to the nearest submission centre (list will be provided by the deputy director of education) where online counsellors in charge at the centres will check their forms and after ascertaining the information feed in the same on the website.
Students visiting the submission centres would have to make the payment at the centre by cash. These students should also carry the necessary certificates (OBC,SC,ST,sports etc. whichever applicable). Those students who submit the form online would have to show these certificates at the college after the get admission. For the convenience of the students,Wankhede said that they would be making schools equipped with computer and internet facilities as submission centres in addition to submission centres of the Maharashtra Knowledge Commission Ltd (MKCL) around the MMR.
Currently,600 such centres have already been identified and the list would be extended to include 1000 more centres.
Students can only fill up course and college preferences online as their marks, percentages, and other basic details will be provided to the deputy director by the SSC Board. Students would be informed if their names figure in the merit lists of colleges of their choice by SMS. Merit lists of colleges will also be put up on the website.
Wankhede said that students would be informed about their selection in merit lists of not more than two colleges. Meanwhile, the zonal coordinators of the 20 zones divided on the basis of municipal wards in MMR were trained by online admission officials on Wednesday. Principals of different colleges have been appointed as zonal coordinators.
