The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has come to the rescue of a four-year-old who was allegedly abducted by a couple from outside the Mahim Dargah four months ago. The committee has summoned the Shahu Nagar police on Monday to reply why havent they taken any action against the couple after receiving several complaints. Sadaf,a boy who begged outside the dargah, was allegedly lured by a woman Jana Ara to live with her and her husband nearby. According to the neighbours and a local NGO Sneha, things got nasty after the woman started torturing the kid. Last week, like always,Jana Ara started beating Sadaf, who later fell unconscious. One of our community workers intervened and rescued the child. Sadaf was at the Sion Hospital for a week and was later shifted to the Dongri Childrens home, said Reshma Jagtap from Sneha.
The woman during the preliminary investigation claimed that the child was her sisters son. However, after the neighbours pressurised her and threatened her to approach the police, she revealed that she brought him from outside Dargah while he was fast asleep.
According to the statement given by the child, his mother, who also begged outside the Dargah, died soon after he was born.
His father,a drunkard, too, went missing. The child claims he was taken care of by a person named Asif, whom the committee has summoned to be present on Monday, Jagtap added.
She beat me and would threathen to burn me alive every time I stepped out of the house. She never allowed me to step out of the house. I want to return to Asif, the child has said in his statement.
When contacted,Shahu Nagar police refused that CWC has summoned them and said claims made by the child and the neighbours were false. The woman is childless and she was taking good care of him. False claims are been made by the people. I personally looked in to the case. After being totally satisfied,we decided against registering a complaint, said Senior Police Inspector Lata Sambhaji Donde.
