Navi Mumbai airport to be named after D B Patil, got PM’s approval: CM

The CM also announced that the cases registered against those who took in protests over the naming of Navi Mumbai International Airport will be withdrawn

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday said that Navi Mumbai International Airport will be named after farmers’ leader D B Patil and the approval for the same was given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a meeting.

Fadnavis said that he requested PM Modi to approve the proposal and the Prime Minister gave a positive response. He was speaking at the all-party meeting with local residents who have been demanding the same.

“The central government had earlier given permission for the construction of the airport with the name ‘Navi Mumbai International Airport’, the name has been expanded and now it will be ‘Loknete D B Patil Navi Mumbai International Airport’. Prime Minister has assured that the airport will be named as per the proposal sent by the state government,” said Fadnavis.

The Prime Minister will visit Raigad district on October 8 to inaugurate the Navi Mumbai International Airport.

On the same day, he will also inaugurate the final phase of the Colaba–Bandra–SEEPZ Metro-3 corridor in Mumbai. The PM is likely to attend the International Fintech Festival in Mumbai during his two-day tour, scheduled for October 8–9.

Fadnavis also said that a proposal to name the existing airport in Pune after Jagadguru Sant Tukaram and to name the airport in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar after Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, has been sent to the Central Government. “All three proposals are under consideration will be approved soon as per the demand of the state government and as per the new policy,” said the CM.
