The tripartite Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is yet to finalise its name for the Leader of Opposition’s post in the legislative assembly. With Shiv Sena (UBT) staking the claim for the post, the Congress is likely to finalise its stand on March 5, as its central leaders will be arriving in Mumbai.
“The issue is not about the post or the dispute about it between us. We are going to raise people’s issues in this budget session… as far as the name is concerned, you will get to know it in a few days,” said Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA and former minister Aaditya Thackeray. Senior MLA Bhaskar Jadhav is one of the strongest contenders for the post.
Senior Congress leaders from the AICC will be in Mumbai on March 5 where the party will finalise its stand. “The issue has already been informed to our central leadership and they will finalise the party strategy,” said party’s newly appointed deputy group leader, Amin Patel.
According to sources within the MVA, nowhere in the legislative rule mentions the mandatory 10 per cent member rule. It was argued that since none of the opposition parties have managed to win 10 per cent MLAs of the total strength of the house, the LoP cannot be appointed.
“There is no such rule written anywhere. It is about finalising the name within the MVA. The ruling side will have to accept the LoP name,” said a senior MLA from SS (UBT).
