After receiving 100 mm of rainfall on Friday, the onslaught of rains in the city ebbed a bit with Mumbai receiving a total of 15 mm on Saturday.There were instances of tree falling and wall collapse.
Of the 13 tree-fall incidents reported to the civic body on Saturday, an incident at Marine Lines injured a 48-year-old security guard working in a private building. According to civic officials, the guard, Jafeer Khan, was admitted to Gokuldas Tejpal Hospital for trauma injuries.
In another incident, a part of a wall belonging to a three-storey building on Jangannath Shankar Sheth Marg collapsed in Girgaum.
“It is a residential building and the portion collapsed in early morning, but there were no injuries,” an official
from the BMC disaster management cell said.
By Saturday afternoon, an incident of plaster fall in Sion Bhandarwada area injured 24-year-old resident Mamta Gupta. She was treated and discharged by early evening.
The average rainfall in Colaba was recorded at 25 mm, while the suburbs saw a drier spell with Santacruz noting an average rain of three mm. According to the BMC, despite removing the 20 per cent water cut, the levels in lakes are steadily rising.
On Saturday, the seven lakes in the city recorded 9,33,696 million liters of water, enough to last for over 200 days and 16.8 per cent more than the lake levels last year.
