Two men who allegedly stood on a pole and snatched a cellphone from a woman passenger near Thane railway station last month were arrested by the railway police on Thursday. The police also caught the person to whom the stolen phone had been sold and recovered several other stolen phones from his shop. The incident took place at Kopri bridge, between Mulund and Thane railway stations, on October 27 evening when 36-year-old Samisha Markande was standing on the footboard of a local train.
The police said the two men, who were standing on a pole adjoining the railway tracks, hit her on the hand and the woman’s Samsung Galaxy S-8 phone worth Rs 62,500 fell off.
After Markande lodged a complaint at Thane railway police station, the police identified the alleged thieves as Thane residents, Kunal Zanzade (20) and Durgesh Shukla (18). Samadhan Pawar, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Railways), said Shukla was arrested in Thane on Thursday and that led the police to Zanzade. He said they had sold the phone to one Ramakar Singh, who owns a mobile repair centre on Pokhran Road. ENS
