Among the injured, 44 are still hospitalized, with one person in critical condition. 31 individuals have been discharged so far. The billboard was located beside a petrol pump on the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) and collapsed at 4.30 pm on Monday after gusty winds and season’s first spell of rainfall lashed the city. Most of the victims were either refuelling or seeking refuge from the rain when the disaster struck.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, too, inspected the site of the incident and reviewed the relief operations. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for Tuesday, indicating hot and humid conditions for Mumbai while a heatwave warning has been issued for Thane. The weather department has not predicted any rain activity for today.
Additionally, the sudden downpour disrupted Mumbai’s suburban train services, causing significant delays. Sources reported that a total of 170 local train services were canceled throughout the day due to the inclement weather.

The Mumbai police on Tuesday said they have arrested one more member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in connection with the firing outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s house last month.
Harpal Singh, alias Harry, 33, was arrested from Haryana, produced before a court in Mumbai, and remanded in police custody until May 22. This was the sixth arrest in connection with the case.
An officer said, “Harpal Singh is an important member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in India. He was used to collecting extortion amounts from victims. He also has a firing case registered against him.”

Petrol pump attendant killed in hoarding collapse had got job few months back, says kin
Sachin Yadav (23), one of the victims of the hoarding collapse, had landed a job as an attendant at the ill-fated BPCL petrol pump in Ghatkopar just a couple of months ago, a family member said.
Yadav is one of the 14 people who were killed when a 120 x 120 square feet illegal hoarding collapsed on a petrol pump in the Chheda Nagar area due to gusty winds during dust storms and rains that lashed the city on Monday.
At least 75 others were injured in the incident. Sachin, father to a three-month-old baby, had joined as an attendant at the petrol pump just a couple of months ago, said his cousin Sunil Yadav. "I was unaware of the accident till someone shared a video on my WhatsApp group. I realised that Sachin was working at the petrol pump and was worried. I started calling him frantically, but my calls went unanswered," Sunil said. (PTI)

IMD issues heatwave warning for Mumbai
A day after heavy rain and gusty winds swept the city, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has now issued a heatwave warning for Mumbai as well as its neighbouring districts of Thane and Raigad today.
The weather bureau has stated that the yellow heatwave alert will remain in place for the next two days.
Furthermore, the weather bureau has also stated the likelihood of moderate rain and thunderstorms activity starting evening on Tuesday and Wednesday.

DRF Inspector Gaurav Chauhan said on rescue operation being conducted after hoarding collapse at a petrol pump in Ghatkopar, Mumbai. 'There are two teams including 53 personnel. We are continuing this operation for last 18 hours. We have so far recovered 14 bodies and 74 injured persons. They have been sent to hospitals. The hoarding fell on petrol pump and hence we are not using the cutting equipment. It can cause spark and create other scenario. We used hydraulic crane but it was not successful. We are using manual technique. The operation is expected to be over by this evening.'
4th phase of LS polls: 59.64 pc voter turnout in 11 seats in Maharashtra
During the fourth phase of general elections in Maharashtra, an average voter turnout of 59.64% was recorded across 11 Lok Sabha constituencies. The highest turnout was in Beed at 69.74%, and the lowest was in Pune at 51.25%. Other constituencies' turnouts were as follows: Jalna (68.30%), Nandurbar (67.12%), Ahmednagar (62.76%), Raver (61.36%), Shirdi (61.13%), Aurangabad (60.73%), Jalgaon (53.65%), Maval (52.90%), and Shirur (51.46%).
Notable candidates included Union Minister Raosaheb Danve (Jalna), BJP leader Pankaja Munde (Beed), and actor-turned-politician Amol Kolhe (Shirur). Some candidates contested from constituencies where they do not reside.
A total of 298 candidates contested, with 41 nominees in Beed and 11 in Nandurbar. There were 2.28 crore eligible voters for this phase. Maharashtra has 48 Lok Sabha seats, with 35 seats having completed polling so far. The remaining 13 seats, including six in Mumbai, will vote on May 20. Votes will be counted on June 4. (PTI)

Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar has assured strict action following a hoarding collapse in Ghatkopar, Mumbai, which resulted in 14 deaths and 74 injuries during a dust storm and unseasonal rains.
The illegal 100-foot billboard fell at a petrol pump, leading to a case against Bhavesh Bhinde, owner of M/s Ego Media Private Limited, for culpable homicide and other charges. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who visited the site, ordered a structural audit of all hoardings in the city, with illegal and dangerous ones to be removed immediately.
CM Eknath Shinde also announced Rs 5 lakh aid for the families of the deceased.
