A 52-year-old man from Vikhroli has been booked for allegedly assaulting an eight-year-old girl on Wednesday for ringing the doorbell of his house and running away. The police said that due to the assault, the minor suffered an epileptic attack and was admitted to a hospital, following which the case was registered.

According to police officials, the incident took place at around 6 pm on Wednesday. As per the complaint from her father, the eight-year-old suffers from epilepsy and attends school from 12:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

“After returning, the girl went to play with her friends. Suddenly, at around 6:15 pm, she came back home crying, with her clothes wet, and informed her father that the 52-year-old had slapped her multiple times,” the police said.
The father then confronted the accused, who stated that the girl was ringing his doorbell, which prompted him to slap her.

“The girl urinated on her clothes out of fear while she was being assaulted,” a police officer said.

Later in the evening, after she suffered an epileptic attack and was admitted to the hospital, her father lodged a complaint with the police. A case was registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Juvenile Justice Act.

A senior police officer said, “We have recorded the statement of the person booked in the case, who alleged that the girl would often ring the doorbell of his house and escape, which is why he slapped her. We have not arrested him, but as per the provisions of the law, we have served him a notice and allowed him to go.”
