The SSC results were announced by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) Monday.
Eight students from the Mumbai division achieved a perfect score of 100 per cent, surpassing last year’s count of six.
Additionally, there has been a notable increase in the number of students scoring above 90 percent, with 13,430 students achieving this milestone compared to last year’s 11,785.
According to educators in the city, this result signifies that students are overcoming the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, which had impacted academic performance until last year.
Jaywant Kulkarni, a senior teacher from a Mumbai school, commented, “The fluctuation in SSC results over the past few years can be attributed to the pandemic. Initially, it was due to the absence of exams, but in the subsequent years, the state board introduced several student-friendly measures to address the academic setbacks caused by the pandemic and online learning.”
Pandurang Kengar, former secretary of the Mumbai School Principals’ Association, noted, “This year’s result accurately reflects the students’ comprehension as both academics and examinations have returned to normalcy.”
A total of 341,184 students registered for the SSC exam from the Mumbai division this year, out of which 339,269 appeared for the exam, and 325,143 passed.
With a pass percentage of 95.83, the Mumbai division secured the fourth position among the nine divisions of the MSBSHSE.
In the Mumbai division, 1,533 schools achieved a 100 percent pass rate. However, on the downside, five schools in the Mumbai division were among the 38 schools statewide that recorded a 0 per cent pass rate.
Of the six regions in the Mumbai division— Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburbs 1 and 2, Thane, Raigad, and Palghar— Raigad emerged as the top-performing region, with a pass percentage of 96.75.
