A fire broke out in the Breach Candy apartment at Cumbala Hill in Bhulabhai Desai Road on Thursday, the second such incident happening in two weeks.

On May 28, the blaze broke out on the 12th floor of the building, while on Thursday, the fire was reported from the 11th floor of the 15-storey building.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the fire was reported at around 4.33 pm from inside an apartment and is confined within electrical installations, household items and combustible items like bedsheets and curtains. The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) had immediately rushed to the spot and no casualty was reported.

The fire was doused after two hours of firefighting.

After the May 28 fire, the MFB had found out that the building’s in-built firefighting system was defunct, following which the officials had issued a notice to the management.

“The building management has a week’s time to file their reply. This is the second incident reported and we will investigate this matter thoroughly, following which, stringent action will be taken against them,” Umesh Palande, assistant divisional fire officer, said.

The officials said that the cause of the fire was being investigated and a report on the same will be prepared in the next two days.
