After several rounds of trekking, Cops nab duo who robbed, attacked trekkers in Mulund

After several rounds of trekking, the Mulund police managed to nab two of the four persons of a gang who allegedly accosted two trekkers who had gone trekking at a hillock in Mulund on New Year’s Eve.

The accused had also physically assaulted the woman and her friend and fled with valuables in their bags including a GoPro camera. The duo was produced before a court and remanded to police custody.

A team led by inspector Adinath Gawade from the Mulund police station investigated the trekking path which was used by the victims, Shlok D (24) and Hiral (29) on December 31.

While typically, a larger group goes on these treks, on December 31, since most people were away on holiday, only the two of them went to trek on a hillock near Vasant Garden in Mulund West when they were attacked and robbed by four persons.

Gawade said that over the past 10 days, their team had been trekking to the spot and questioning those residing in the Warli villages in the area. Eventually, based on questioning the police team found that one Anikumart Harshenagi and Kiran Rane, both 24-year-olds who reside on the Thane side of the hillock, were involved.

Accordingly, the duo were placed under arrest. The police found that the accused have prior cases of robbery registered against them. An officer said that they are on the lookout for the two other accused who were part of the gang.

The Mulund police had registered an FIR after the accused had struck Shlok with a stone and pushed Hiral. The accused then fled from the spot after snatching their bags and mobile phones. Valuables including a GoPro camera worth Rs 55,500 was lost by the victims.

After the incident, the duo managed to return to the base of the hill and were taken to a local hospital with the help of others. An officer said Shlok received nearly 15 stitches for the injuries he suffered. Eventually, based on Hiral’s statement, the Mulund police had registered an FIR in the matter and began the probe.
