MU exam controller gets threat calls, files complaint

The controller of examination of Mumbai University,Professor Vilas Shinde, has approached the police stating he has been receiving threat calls from an unknown person.

The controller of examination (CoE) of Mumbai University,Professor Vilas Shinde, has approached the police stating he has been receiving threat calls from an unknown person. Shinde, who filed a complaint with the Kalwa police, said,“I got a call from an unknown person at 9 am on Tuesday. He said whatever bad is happening to me is just a trailer and if I continue to reform the examination system,I will face a lot more than this.”

Shinde also alleged that this is not the first time he has received a threat call. “I got a similar call in April from the Bhoiwada area, threatening to harm me if I do not discontinue the new barcode system for answerpapers. Though this time the number was different, the voice was the same.”

Senior police inspector Arun Sonde from the Kalwa police station said they have registered a non-cognisable complaint. “We are taking this issue seriously and the probe is on. We are trying to trace the number from which the call was made,” he said.

Shinde is also planning to file a separate complaint at the Bandra-Kurla Complex police station. “I filed a complaint with the Kalwa police as I live in the area. I am also planning to file a complaint with the BKC police station as my office, which is located in Kalina campus, comes under its jurisdiction,” he added.

Shinde also alleged that some people were trying to defame him for vested interests. On June 1,a fourth-year student of Bachelor of Legal Studies from Pravin Gandhi College of Law at Vile Parle filed a non-cognisable complaint at the BKC police station against Shinde for alleged assault. Siddharth Sharma (23) in his complaint said Shinde had been withholding his semester VI result and made him come repeatedly to collect it. He also alleged Shinde slapped him twice after a heated argument.

Shinde, however, denied slapping the student. “He barged into my cabin and spoke rudely to me and my staff. I told him that his revaluation result had been sent to his residential address, but he kept shouting at me. Finally,I had to call the security to take him out. This is an attempt to defame me,” he added.
