After Ashok Chavan,who had to relinquish the chief ministers office over his alleged role in the Adarsh scam,more politicians are likely to face the heat as the investigations progress.
Among those most likely to face the music,are Chavans predecessor and Union Minister for Heavy Industries Vilasrao Deshmukh and the MoS for water resources Sunil Tatkare.
According to sources,after a dozen pages of notings had gone missing from a file dealing with the controversial Adarsh society,the focus has shifted to happenings prior to 2003. During this period,the then chief minister Deshmukh was in-charge of the urban development and Tatkare was the MoS,urban development.
A senior Congress leader said the changes made in a BEST undertakings plot to facilitate more space for Adarsh society was carried out during the period. The notings that have gone missing deal with the same issue.
According to a senior official,the urban development department has been able to recreate the entire file to overcome the deficiency of the notings with the help of other documents related to Adarsh society.
Sources said the two politicians were likely to face the heat alongwith Chavan.
Chief secretary will keep Adarsh files: RR
Nagpur:Home Minister R R Patil on Saturday assured the Maharashtra Legislative Council that all files in possession of the state government would be kept in safe custody of chief secretary J P Dange.
He was replying to a priority motion moved by MLC Jayant Patil and MLC Neelam Gorhe regarding the papers in a file dealing with the controversial society going missing,and notices being issued to IAS officials in the case.
Last week,the urban development department had lodged a complaint with Marine Drive police that pages carrying notings,in a file related to Adarsh,were missing. The Crime Branch is investigating. I checked with the crime branch. Since the file moved from a desk officer and clerk to several officials,they are still investigating the matter, said Patil.
Last month,the CBI,which is probing the scam,had complained to the chief secretary that some departments were not giving them free access to files.
