CHIEF MINISTER Prithviraj Chavan said Wednesday reports from the weather bureau indicated monsoon would arrive in the state on June 15.
Chavan,who convened a meeting to assess the preparedness of various departments and civic bodies to tackle monsoon-related problems,said,The state disaster management cell is ready to tackle emergency situations in case of heavy rain.
The meeting was held following complaints from political parties accusing MMRDA of neglecting the dangers of waterlogging in areas where major project works are incomplete.
Chavan directed the administration to take steps to ensure there was no loss of life due to lightning strikes or building collapses. He also asked MMRDA to provide alternate accommodation to residents of 61 dilapidated buildings within 15 days. The 61 buildings in Thane have been categorised as dangerous.
BMC commissioner Sitaram Kunte said five-point programmes were planned to combat monsoon-related diseases such as malaria,dengue and typhoid. Chavan said,Water cleanliness should be accorded highest priority.
A super computer had been installed to give weather reports periodically to alert the administration of any danger.
Kunte said,BMC control room is operational 24×7. Brimstowad project will strive to control flooding in city. If citizens alert us about potholes,action will be taken. Around 18,750 trees have been felled to avoid untoward incidents.
