MMRCL nod needed for any construction work in Metro Line influence area
Meanwhile, the city's only underground Metro 3 is expected to open commercial operations in phases.

Residents living within the 50-metre influence area of the upcoming underground Metro Line 3 from Colaba-SEEPZ Via Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) have to obtain prior permission from the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) for carrying out any redevelopment or development activities.
The MMRC, which is the project implementing authority, issued a notice on Wednesday which read, “In order to prevent any adverse impact on the Metro Tunnels resulting from any development/redevelopment, it is mandatory for property owners, landlords, societies, associations, and similar entities (within the 50-metre influence zone) to obtain approval before commencing any work including drilling of tubewells or sinking of wells, construction and demolition, geotechnical investigation, excavation, laying out any infrastructure among others.”
Currently, residents of Mumbai have to take prior permission from several competent authorities like Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), Slum Redevelopment Authority (SRA), Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ), power companies among others. Now, the MMRC has been added to this list.
Meanwhile, the city’s only underground Metro 3 is expected to open commercial operations in phases. Phase 1 between BKC – Aarey is likely to open by April this year. MMRC is carrying out the Phase 1 completion work through its contractors. MMRC anticipates the entire 33.5 km of Metro 3 will be completed after six months of Phase 1 operations.
The nine rakes required for Phase 1 operations have already been delivered and parked at Aarey metro 3 depot.
