Mason held for molesting minor in public toilet

A mason was arrested by the Mumbai Police Crime Branch Saturday under the charges of molesting a minor girl in a public toilet in Worli.

A mason was arrested by the Mumbai Police Crime Branch Saturday under the charges of molesting a minor girl in a public toilet in Worli.

According to the police, the incident took place Thursday when the seven-year-old victim went to a public toilet near her home on her way back from tuition classes. The accused, Peer Mohammad Vakil Ilyasi (28), who lives in her locality, was conducting repairs at the toilet when he saw the girl walk in. The police added that Ilyasi went inside the toilet to fill water and upon spotting the girl alone inside, molested her and fled. On reaching home, the girl informed her parents about the incident. A complaint was lodged at Worli police station. The Crime Branch was also roped in to look for the accused.

A Crime Branch official said that they had no clue to begin with as the traumatised girl could not provide any description of the attacker. Hence, they went to the toilet where the incident took place and questioned the contractor tasked with repairing it.

The Crime Branch then found that Ilyasi had been at work there at the time of the incident and began to trace him. “We did not find Ilyasi at his home and alerted our informers. On Saturday morning, we received a tip-off that the accused would be at Jijamata Nagar near Worli Naka. We trapped him there,” the official said.

“We put manual intelligence at work to trace the accused. After becoming sure of his identity and obtaining his phone number, we used technical support to find him,” said Inspector Sunil Mane of Crime Branch Unit 3.
