Manmohan Singh,Sonia Gandhi to attend launch of Bharatiya Mahila Bank

Only four branches at Kolkata,Chennai,Ahmedabad and Guwahati will be opened through a video link.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi will inaugurate Bharatiya Mahila Bank in Mumbai on Tuesday—India’s first women’s bank,to coincide with birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The headquarters at Delhi will not become operational however as Delhi is under the Election Commission’s Code of Conduct blanket now. Only four branches at Kolkata,Chennai,Ahmedabad and Guwahati will be opened through a video link. Proposed in Budget FY 14,the Bank with an inital capital of Rs 1,000 crore came up as one of the responses to the December 16 gang rape case in Delhi. Usha Ananthasubramanian,former executive director at Punjab National Bank will head the bank.
