Pant Nagar police on Wednesday arrested a 38-year-old man in eastern Mumbais Ghatkopar area for allegedly stabbing a 35-year-old man to death. The accused has been identified as Kannan Pillai. Pillai was arrested from Kamraj Nagar in Ghatkopar (East) by a team of officers.
Officers investigating the case said Pillai had killed the victim,Govindan,after learning that he had an affair with his sister. Both the accused and the deceased hail from Andhra Pradesh,they said.
The victim identified as Govindan is believed to have had an affair with Pillais sister. Pillai confronted Govindan near his house at Kamraj Nagar around 2.30 am on Wednesday and told him to stay away from his sister. The duo entered into an argument. Pillai,who had a knife,stabbed Govindan repeatedly, said DCP (Zone 7) Sanjay Shintre.
Shintre said Govindan suffered multiple stab wounds on his neck,chest,stomach and private parts.
He was stabbed mercilessly and was left in a bleeding state. He died shortly after. When we got to know of the case,we nabbed Pillai who then confessed to the crime, said Shintre.
Pillai has been charged under Section 302 (murder) of the Inedian Penal Code. We have recorded several statements in the case and are probing the matter, said Shintre.
