Over a fortnight after Babu Genu Market building collapse in Dockyard Road, the body of Vijay Narayan Jadhav,40,is yet to be found, claims his uncle,Vijay Dhondu Jadhav. Meanwhile,an unclaimed and unidentified body from the collapse site remains in the morgue at JJ Hospital.
Jadhav claims that is not his nephew and refuses to take it. Giving credence to his doubts, the hospital authorities confirmed that the post-mortem of the body indicated it to be of a Muslim male, who was in his early 40s.
Jadhavs nephew,Vijay Narayan was a peon at BMCs municipal market in Govandi and had recently shifted to the staff quarters at Babu Genu Market building along with his mother.
Both son and mother had been sleeping when the ground-plus-four storey structure collapsed. My nephews built doesnt match with that of the bodys. Besides,he had good hair on his scalp while the one at JJ was a bald man. He never wore socks but this body had socks on its feet, said Jadhav who works at a security firm.
We found my sisters body at JJ Hospital, the next day of the collapse, he said. He fears that another family might have claimed his nephews body by mistake.
We have sent the body for a DNA test. The police will later take the blood samples of relatives of Vijay Narayan to confirm whether it is his body or someone elses, said Dr S S Chavan from JJ Hospitals Forensic Department.
We have checked with the police and fire officials but are not able to find his nephews body, said Yamini Jadhav, corporator from Dockyard Road.
I will wait until the DNA test, said Vijay Dhondu. After 10 days of meeting officials,he is showing signs of fatigue. I want to give him a proper cremation but I am not getting any support. I have a family to look after and this is proving difficult for me.
