According to police, the incident happened on Monday afternoon when the girl was playing with her friends near her house on her way back from a shop. The accused, who works with a catering firm and stays in the same locality, picked her and took her to an isolated location to rape her, police said.
In the meantime, the girl’s friends informed her mother.
When the mother went in search of the girl, she found her crying on the way, police added.
The local police were then informed after which the accused was identified and subsequently detained. The girl was admitted to hospital for further treatment.
“We registered a case under the relevant sections of the BNS and the POCSO Act late on Monday after which the accused was placed under arrest,” an officer added.
