The Kandivali police arrested a 22-year-old who had kidnapped his neighbours five-year-old son on Friday for a ransom of Rs 5 lakh. Police said the accused,Sayyed Ali,wanted to buy a house for his alleged girlfriend.
Police sad the victim,Ajay Prajapati, stays with his parents at the K B compound in Gandhi Nagar in Kandivali (West). Ajays father,Ramsagar,a POP contractor received a call at 9 pm on Friday demanding a ransom of Rs 5 lakh if he wanted to see his son alive.
Thinking that his son was at the sarvajanik garba and dandiya mandal in the locality,Ramsagar took the ransom call lightly.
However, when he did not find his son there,he approached the police and registered a complaint.
The police took the number from which the ransom call was made and began tracing its location. We found the accused had made a few calls to Uttar Pradesh. Assuming it was his native place,we called up the number and informed them the accused had met with an accident and we needed his name and address, said Sunil Paraskar,Addl CP (North region).
The address was of the same locality as that of the victim. Once we got the name,we asked Ramsagar if he knew the accused,to which he replied that the accused Sayyed Ali was his neighbour, said Paraskar.
Police arrested Ali at 11 pm on Friday who took the police to his alleged girlfriends house in Dahisar (East) where he had kept Ajay.
The woman told us that Ali had asked her to take care of the child as his mother was out of town. Ali told her that he was unable to control the child and wanted her to keep him with her until his mother returned, added an officer.
At 12am on Saturday, police reunited Ajay with his parents and arrested Ali and his alleged girlfriend Nafisa Mohammed Shaikh.
Police said Ali,also a POP contractor, has a wife who delivered a son 15 days ago. Ali allegedly had an affair with Nafisa and wanted to buy her a house in Kandivali so that they could be close to each other.
We will be presenting both Ali and Nafisa in court on Sunday, said the officer.
