Police booked him under sections 182 (false information) and 505 (1) (b) [with intent to cause, or which is likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public, or to any section of the public] of the Indian Penal Code. The Mumbai police Monday arrested a man for allegedly making a hoax call to the police control room on the 15th anniversary of the 26/11 terror attacks on Sunday and claiming that a few terrorists had entered the city for a similar attack.
Sunday marked the anniversary of 10 terrorists attacking several spots in the city on November 26, 2008, leading to the death of over 150 people.
An officer said the caller claimed two or three terrorists had entered Mumbai and had arrived at Ekta Nagar in Mankhurd.
The accused also told the police that the terrorists were planning an operation.
Police identified the accused as Laxman Nanavare, who hails from Ahmednagar. They arrested him from Mankhurd after confirming that the information he provided was false.
The Police said he had told them that he had consumed alcohol from a local bar and was on his way home when a person asked him to give his phone to make a call.
Nanavare said the caller then handed him the phone after the call and left the spot. Police said they were checking to see if any such person had approached Nanavare.
An officer said Nanavare that was produced before the court and remanded to police custody.
Police booked him under sections 182 (false information) and 505 (1) (b) [with intent to cause, or which is likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public, or to any section of the public] of the Indian Penal Code.
