The husband of Suzanna Rodriges (46),who was found murdered at her Malad (West) residence on Monday, had allegedly employed a person to keep a tab on her. The Mumbai Police on Wednesday detained Alwin for questioning and are probing if contract killers were hired to murder Suzanna.
Alwin, who has been working with a private firm in Bahrain for the past six years, returned after being informed of the murder. Police said enquiries have revealed that relations between Suzanna and Alwin were strained over the past two to three years. Whenever Alwin came to Mumbai, the couple fought and he used to beat her up, said an officer. He said Alwin had hired someone to monitor Suzannas movements. This person would call Alwin from a public telephone booth near her house to update him.
The spy seems to have left the locality last month, sources said.
Suzannas post-mortem report stated she had three stab wounds on her neck and kidneys. After killing her,the accused allegedly put newspapers over her body and burnt her on the bed.
There were no signs of forced entry into the flat and valuables were intact. Only Suzanna and her elder daughter Aakashya knew about their jewellery. It is clear the murder was not committed for robbery. We suspect she was killed due to personal reasons, said A Shaikh, senior inspector of Malwani police station.
