MahaVitaran tariff set to go up 4.2%

Power consumers in Maharashtra are set to be charged more with the state power regulator approving an average tariff hike of 4.2 per cent for those serviced by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited.

Power consumers in Maharashtra are set to be charged more with the state power regulator approving an average tariff hike of 4.2 per cent for those serviced by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MahaVitaran). The revised tariffs are applicable from August 1.

The tariff order issued by the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has allowed one per cent hike in the average billing rate for low-tension domestic consumers. MahaVitaran had sought a 32 per cent increase in these tariffs.

For residential consumers,fixed charges per month will be Rs 30 (single-phase) and Rs 100 (three-phase). For low tension non-residential or commercial consumers,the fixed charges are Rs 150 a month.

Industries availing high-tension power on express feeders will have to pay fixed charges at Rs 150 per kVA per month,and energy charges of Rs 5.05 per unit. The railways will have to bear energy charges of Rs 5.35 per unit. The tariffs for group housing societies will be Rs 125 per kVA per month and the energy charges are Rs 3.60 per unit.

The average billing rate for temporary connections has been reduced by 12 per cent to Rs 11.14 from the existing Rs 12.63.

Commercial consumers using supply from high-tension lines have also seen their average billing rate being reduced by three per cent.
