Maharashtra Mumbai Live News Updates: Ahead of the Maharashtra assembly elections on November 20, Chief Minsiter Eknath Shinde has announced ten guarantee schemes under the Mahayuti government. These include increased monthly support for women and senior citizens, farm loan waivers, focus on solar and renewable energy and many others. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday also unveiled five Maha Vikas Agadhi guarantees if it comes to power. MVA has promised free education for both, boys and girls in the state. 

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP-Ajit Pawar) leader and ex-Chief Minister Nawab Malik on Tuesday inaugurated his new election campaign office at Govandi in Mumbai. This comes after Malik’s son-in-law, Sameer Khan died on Sunday after sustaining injuries in an accident on September 17.

Launching his party’s campaign from Kolhapur on Tuesday, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray made “five guarantees” to the voters, while asking the people to point out if he made any mistake when he was the chief minister for two and half years.

Police seek handwriting of accused in Salman Khan firing case for probe into 2022 Salim Khan threat note

Sugarcane labourers, millers lock horns over crushing season date

The sugarcane labourers and millers of Maharashtra are at loggerheads over the date to kick start the sugarcane crushing season. As Maharashtra is the only sugar producing state where the state government decides on the date of the season, the millers have asked the authorities to keep the date on November 15, while the harvesting labourers want it to be after November 20 – the date of Assembly elections.

In view of the state Assembly elections, the state government has fixed November 15 as the start date of the season. However, concerns have been raised whether the labourers, mainly hailing from the districts of Beed, Ahmednagar, Amravati and Jalgaon, would be able to vote in the elections as they would shift to the site of the sugar mills once the season starts.

Uddhav Thackeray expels 5 Sena UBT leaders for anti-party activities

Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray Tuesday expelled five party functionaries for indulging in anti-party activities.

State polls a fight between those who love and hate Maharashtra: Uddhav

Shiv Sena UBT chief Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday said the upcoming Maharashtra assembly election is a battle between those who love the state and the ones who hate it.

Addressing a poll rally at Radhanagari in Kolhapur, Thackeray said those who love the state are aligned with the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi, which comprises the Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress and Sharad Pawar's NCP (SP).

"The upcoming election is a fight between those who love the state and those who hate it," he asserted.

He accused the ruling BJP of trying to divide people on the basis of religion and castes for the sake of power.

Those helping the BJP are "enemies of the state", Thackeray claimed.

Poll flying squad seizes Rs 2.3 cr from vehicle in Thane district

A flying squad of the Election Commission seized Rs 2.3 crore from a van of a cash management company in Maharashtra's Thane district, an official said on Tuesday.

The poll official said the flying squad intercepted the vehicle in Bhiwandi town on Monday evening.

He said the vehicle contained Rs 2.3 crore, and the occupants did not possess valid documents of the money.

The cash was seized as per the model code of conduct in place for the state polls.

Maharashtra assembly polls will be held on November 20, while results will be declared on November 23. The model code of conduct is in force across the state since October 15.

Rebels to be shown the door: Maharashtra BJP chief Bawankule

Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekar Bawankule on Tuesday said the party will crack the whip against rebels and suspend them for six years.

The rebellion by those who have been denied tickets has posed a headache for both the ruling Mahayuti and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in the state ahead of the November 20 assembly polls.

Monday was the last day for the withdrawal of nominations.

Senior leader and former MP Gopal Shetty withdrew his nomination filed as an independent candidate from Mumbai's Borivali seat on Monday after being persuaded by the BJP to opt out of the poll race.

The ruling BJP also managed to get some of the other rebels withdraw their nominations.

Bawankule said some rebels have tendered resignation, while the party will be removing some of them.

"By today evening, we will be closing the party's doors for them and they will be suspended for six years. This process is going on and we are doing an analysis of who left (rebels) and who all left with them. Subsequently, action will be taken by evening," he said.

Another death threat to actor Salman Khan: ‘apologise or pay Rs 5 crore to stay alive’

The Mumbai police said they received a message early on Tuesday threatening to kill Bollywood actor Salman Khan from a sender who identified himself as the brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.

A senior police officer said the message was received on the helpline number of the Mumbai traffic control room at around 12.30 am, after which Worli police officers were notified.

“The sender, in the message, identified himself as the brother of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. He gave the actor two options to stay alive— either apologise at a temple or pay Rs 5 crore — as members of their gang would kill him,” the officer said.

'Whistle' symbol to be allotted to BVA following due procedure: ECI tells Bombay HC

The Election Commission of India told the Bombay High Court on Monday that the 'whistle' symbol would be allotted to Hitendra Thakur-led Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly polls following requisite guidelines.

The ECI in January this year allotted the 'whistle' symbol to the Janata Dal (United).

A BVA candidate contested the 2024 general polls on the 'whistle' symbol from Maharashtra's Palghar Lok Sabha seat as the JD(U) did not have a candidate.

A division bench of Justices Somasekhar Sundaresan and Arif Doctor was on Monday hearing a petition by the BVA for allotting the symbol to the party.

During the hearing before the court, the ECI submitted a letter received from the JD(U) informing the poll body about its decision to not contest the November 20 Maharashtra assembly elections.

Pawar, Patole welcome EC's decision to transfer Maharashtra DGP

NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar and his MVA allies Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress on Monday welcomed the Election Commission's move to direct the Maharashtra government to transfer DGP Rashmi Shukla with immediate effect.

The EC, which took the decision after complaints from political parties, directed the Maharashtra chief secretary to hand over Shukla's charge to the next senior-most IPS officer in the cadre. The chief secretary was also directed to send a panel of three IPS officers by Tuesday afternoon for appointment as DGP, sources said.

The chief secretary has asked Mumbai police commissioner to hold the additional charge of the post, they said.

Maharashtra goes to polls on November 20.

He said that he had received several calls of reassurances from Congress' leadership, which led to the withdrawal of his nomination.

"I have decided to take the nomination back as an independent candidate. I had recieved calls from State President Nana Patole, in-charge Ramesh Chennithala and MP Syed Naseer Hussain, that there should be a secular force. After their assurance, I took the decision and took back my nomination. I will also support and work for the MVA Candidate Ravindra Dhangekar in Kasba Assembly constituency," he told ANI.

Shaikh further claimed that as he wanted to have Muslims represented in Pune, and that he had been assured by party leaders of getting the nomination from his constituency before.

He further said that he will continue to work for the party in the upcoming assembly elections and after that too.

The Kashba Peth assembly contest will mainly be between Bharatiya Janata Party's Hemant Narayan Rasane, Congress' Ravindra Hemraj Dhangekar and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena's (MNS) Ganesh Somnath Bhokre.

Mumbai police release woman held for sending threat message about UP CM Adityanath

The Mumbai police have released the 24-year-old woman apprehended for allegedly giving a death threat to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath after interrogating her, an official said on Monday.

Fatima Khan, an IT graduate living with her family in Ulhasnagar, Thane district, was nabbed in a joint operation by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad and police.

The official said she was brought to Mumbai for interrogation, served a notice, and later released on Sunday.

According to the police, Khan is well-qualified but mentally unstable. Her father works in the timber business.

The Mumbai traffic police on Saturday received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number threatening that if Adityanath did not resign as Uttar Pradesh chief minister in 10 days, he would be killed like NCP leader Baba Siddique, who was gunned down last month.

During the probe, it was found that Khan had sent the message, and she was apprehended from Ulhasnagar in a joint operation by the ATS and police.

The police are on alert as Adityanath is expected to visit Maharashtra to campaign for the November 20 assembly elections.
