
Maharashtra Govt Formation Highlights: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Rahul Narvekar was Sunday elected as the Maharashtra Assembly Speaker unopposed in the House as Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) parties refused to file nomination for th post. The formal announcement will be made on Monday. The Opposition MVA has placed a formal demand seeking the Leader of Opposition post and the Deputy Speaker post in the Assembly, and decision on the same will be taken tomorrow. The MVA MLAs began taking the oath of office early Sunday, a day after deciding against it to protest the alleged misuse of EVMs in the recently held state Assembly polls.
Pawar expresses shock: The Nationalist Congress Party (SP) chief Sharad Pawar Saturday had expressed shock at the election results, citing figures for voting for different parties and the seats they won. In response, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis hit back, asking him “not to mislead people of the country”. This was the first time in six decades that none of the parties in the Opposition MVA had sufficient seats to become the Leader of Opposition.
Who gets what in Maha Cabinet? The BJP, the biggest constituent of the Mahayuti alliance, is expected to get 21-22 ministerial posts. The Shiv Sena could get 11 to 12 ministerial berths and NCP nine to 10 berths, news agency PTI reported. Speaking on the Cabinet expansion and portfolio allocation, CM Fadnavis said: “Who will get what ministry, this will be decided by the three together and it is in the final stage. The work of the ministers in the previous government is being assessed and further the decision will be taken on that basis.”
