Deputy CM Eknath Shinde email threat: ‘Neighbour did it to take revenge on me’, says one of the 2 held from Buldhana

The emails threatening to blow up Shinde’s vehicle were sent to several recipients, including the Goregaon police, JJ Marg police station, state secretariat and two other locations in Mumbai on Thursday. The Mumbai police on Friday arrested two men from Buldhana in connection with the email threat against Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
An officer from Mumbai Crime Branch said the accused – identified as Mangesh Wayal, 35, and his neighbour Abhay Shingane, 22 – are being brought to the city and will be produced before the court.
The emails threatening to blow up Shinde’s vehicle were sent to several recipients, including the Goregaon police, JJ Marg police station, state secretariat and two other locations in Mumbai on Thursday.
According to the police, Wayal, whose girlfriend had died by suicide recently, would often cast aspersions on Shingane for abetting her to take the extreme step. Shingane, in vengeance, had allegedly sent the mail from Wayal’s phone while it was being charged to put him in trouble, Wayal claimed.
“We are verifying the claims made by Wayal,” an officer said.
The police said that based on technical information, the officers tracked down the mobile from which threat emails were sent to two police stations in the city. Accordingly, a team was dispatched to Buldhana where the two men were placed under arrest.
Authorities at Goregaon police station have registered a case in this connection.
This is not the first time Deputy CM Shinde is facing threats. Just a month ago, he received another threat, which led to the arrest of a 27-year-old person.
