The Vadgaonsheri constituency in Pune city continued with the trend of getting a new legislator, while Hadapsar broke the trend by re-electing the incumbent MLA in the recently concluded Maharashtra Assembly elections.
Six of the eight sitting legislators, including five from the BJP, retained their seats. Sitting NCP MLA Chetan Tupe was re-elected from Hadapsar assembly constituency.
In the last three elections, voters in Hadapsar have always voted for a new legislator. In 2009, Shiv Sena leader Mahadeo Babar was elected, followed by BJP’s Yogesh Tilekar in 2014 and NCP’s Chetan Tupe in 2019. This year, Tupe got re-elected from the seat and broke the previous trend of Hadapsar getting a new legislator.
“I am proud to have given a tough fight to the rival. I will continue to work for the people of Hadapsar,” said NCP(SP) candidate Prashant Jagtap, who lost to Tupe.
In Vadgaonsheri, the trend of getting a new legislator continued as NCP (SP) candidate Bapu Pathare was elected by defeating sitting NCP legislator Sunil Tingre. “I lost because of the wrong narrative being spread about me,” said Tingre.
Tingre has been accused of sheilding the minor driver in the Porsche crash case, in which killed two 24-year-old techies were killed. Tingre had won in 2019 by defeating then sitting legislator Jagdish Mulik of BJP, who got elected in 2014 by defeating Pathare in 2009.
