For more than three decades, the Granta magazine has published many of the world’s finest writers. They have written about some of the world’s most important subjects, from intimate human experiences to the large public and political events that have shaped our lives. Now,its renewed alliance with Penguin India will see to it that the world-class quarterly magazine becomes more accessible as well as retains its range of subjects.

“Following the previous distribution set up we wanted to get India back up to speed on the availability of the magazine, which will come out quarterly as usual in future,” says Mike Bryan,President and CEO of Penguin Books India. “We are thrilled to be working with Granta, and watch out for Herta Muller’s new book,The Appointment, coming out in July.”

Leading the pack of seven Granta issues being “re-launched” in India is the issue on ‘Sex’ with contributions from Roberto Bolaño,Tom McCarthy,Herta Müller and Jeanette Winterson. The themes of other issues are work,Chicago, father, fiction special and lost and found.

The issue on ‘work’ will lay bare the intrinsic link between work and identity. The writings that Indians can specially look forward to are Salman Rushdie meditating on sloth, while Ruchir Joshi travels around India to find out how a transforming economy is affecting the nation’s professional landscape. Granta’s fifth fiction-only issue “published to coincide with the dog-days of summer” is a must have.
