Fashion houses around the globe may be complaining of an economic slowdown, but as any fashionista worth her money knows — if you’re going to spend on anything, spend it on quality. That explains why tighter purses and sinking bottomlines haven’t deterred HDIL from putting together another Couture Week this year. The fashion extravaganza will take place from October 11 to 16 at the Grand Hyatt in Kalina. The event has already generated great interest in its second year with news of massive Bollywood presence at the week doing the rounds. With Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan set to walk the ramp for Karan Johar’s debut menswear collection, which the filmmaker is showing with designer Varun Bahl and Aamir Khan being reportedly roped in by Salman Khan to be showstopper for his Being Human line, the Couture Week is sure to garner a great deal of curiousity. But with couturiers like Suneet Varma,Pallavi Jaikishan and Manav Gangwani slated to show, let’s hope that for once, fashion takes precedence over Bollywood’s glitz and glamour.

The event had a few teething troubles with its debut last year. Jaikishan says,“The designers were informed of their participation at very short notice — only about a month in advance. I could’ve done a much better job; some of my more beautiful outfits remained unfinished. This time too it’s was announced a little late. But then, organising an event on a scale like this does take time.”
