(File Photo)Professor Shireesh Kedare was on Friday appointed as director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay. Institute Chair Professor from the Energy Science and Engineering department of the IIT Bombay, Kedare is professor-in-charge at Centre of Excellence in Oil, Gas and Energy at the institute since 2019.
Even as Prof Subhasis Chaudhari’s term as director of IIT Bombay ended on April 17, he was asked to continue until the new appointment. On Friday, the IIT Council announced the appointment of Kedare.
Kedare holds B. Tech degree in mechanical engineering from IIT Bombay in 1985, followed by a Ph.D. in 1992 from the same institution. His research interests include solar technologies with thermal energy storage for industrial processes, renewable energy technologies and energy transition pathways.
Over the years, he has been crucial in various roles at IIT Bombay and was a member of the Board of Governors at IIT Madras. He was also nominated member of the Council of IITs, Ministry of Education.
