Ajmal Kasab,whose plea to be given newspapers to read in his cell was struck down,has now enough to read inside the special bomb-resistant cell at the Arthur Road Jail.
He has been given a copy of the Quran,besides a few more books from the jail library. A joke-book has also been given to him. Kasab,jail sources said,gets up early in the morning,offers prayers and thereafter sits down to read the Quran for over an hour. Since reading of the Quran requires the head to be covered,he has been given a Gandhi cap,too.
Kasab offers prayers five times a day. Jail officials said,A joke book provided by his lawyer has been given to him. He has also been given a book of short stories that carry some moral and another book on fiction. The books keeps him busy most of the time, they said.
Jail superintendent Swati Sathe said,Yes we have given him a Quran. He made the request to us to provide him with the holy book. To keep him busy inside the cell a few other books have also been provided, she said.
Kasab,lodged inside Arthur Road Jail since February 17,is now inside the high-security special cell next to the special sessions court on the prison premises. Kasab is heavily guarded by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
Kasab,who by his own admission was one of the best shooters among the attackers sent to Mumbai,does some spot-jogging,push ups and stretching. The exercises were said to have been taught to him during his training in Pakistan by alleged LeT masterminds.
