Mumbai police Crime Branch officials said Thursday that umpire Asad Rauf told accused Virendra Randhawa alias Vindoo Dara Singh that he could safely bet his life savings in one of the matches in the last season of IPL. Crime Branch Thursday also questioned brothers Sanjay and Pawan Jaipur for around seven hours on Asad Raufs role in the racket.
Sanjay and Pawan appeared at the Crime Branch office in response to the Bombay HCs orders,and their anticipatory bail application will be heard Friday.
Just before a particular match of the last season of the IPL,Rauf told Vindoo that he could safely bet his life savings. Vindoo put around Rs 50 lakh,which comprised his money as well as money given to him by some of his friends. However,the outcome of the match was opposite and Vindoo lost money, a crime branch officer said. The brothers said Rauf visited their jewellery store in Jaipur during the last IPL season,and admitted to having gifted him watches and jewellery, police said.
