IVF metabolic profiling now at Lilavati

Asia’s first metabolic profiling technology in In Vitro Fertilisation was launched at Lilavati Hospital on Tuesday.

Asia’s first metabolic profiling technology in In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) was launched at Lilavati Hospital on Tuesday. Medically termed as Metabolomics, this breakthrough technology will enable doctors to transfer single embryos as opposed to the currently used multiple embryo transfer.

According to infertility specialist at the hospital,Dr Hrishikesh Pai,“We already have the ‘Viametrics’ facility, which assess embryos with respect to their viability and implantation potential. Metabolic profiling will further enhance this, and reduce the possibility of multiple births and its complications.”

Minimising the risk of multiple gestation while improving pregnancy rates has been one of the prominent targets of assisted reproductive technology since its inception. Globally only five IVF centers are equipped with the Metabolomics facility to assist in this procedure. Chief Minister Ashok Chavan and Governor of Tripura,Padmashree Dr DY Patil, formally announced this launch in Worli today.
