Dance Premier League
Sony
Friday and Saturday,10 pm
Rating ***
Whats it about? On the lines of the Indian Premier League,Sony Television Network has come up with a similar concept but with dance as the backdrop. For the first time, zones from across the country and NRIs will compete on one platform for the Title. Six teams – Uttar Ke Puttar,Southern Sizzlers,Eastern Tigers,Western Yodhas,Central Surmas and NRIs will showcase the best of dance talent, offer differentiated and distinct entertainment by performing various dance forms. The programme starts with auditions in different parts of the country, from where six participants each will be chosen for the respective teams who will then compete in the main league, before heading to the semifinals and finals. Each team has a choreographer who will help them with the competition.
Whats hot? After a host of celebrity dance shows,it is quite a breather to see common people on the dance floor. The audition rounds gave most Indians a platform to exhibit their talent and the star power associated with each team makes it even more worth watching. The format is a fresh one for dance based shows and it helps the choreographers too to work on talent that is fresh and willing to improvise. The dance is of very high quality and it will only get better with only the best being selected for the main league.
Whats not? With this being a zonal tournament, one would have assumed that there are many small-town dancers making a mark. But here too metros like Bangalore,Delhi and Mumbai hog the limelight. The judges comments and suggestions by Shiamak Davar and Arshad Warsi, remind you the judges of Indian Idol.
Should you be watching it?Dance is almost a religion in India and this is probably one dance show that will showcase most dance forms. For a dance lover, this is your only chance to see the best in action.
