Earlier this month when Delhi-based designer couple,Pankaj and Nidhi Ahuja went to London, they particularly looked forward to visiting Harrods, the famous upmarket departmental store. After all,a few pieces from their latest collection have recently got a rack of their own at the store. “We didn’t know if they had even put up our name next to the clothes. We thought they would just be hanging there. But we were thrilled to bits when we saw our pieces on a rack with our designer label right next to some of the world’s biggest labels such as Emilio Pucci,Etro and Missoni,”

says Pankaj.

It was in January this year that they received a call from the store and ever since, the two have been working on changes recommended by the store. “The changes were very minor. They liked our cottons more than the silks and so we made some of our silk pieces in cotton. Besides this,we had to change the length of sleeves in a few pieces,” says Pankaj. Interestingly, the clothes have been put in the resortwear section, though Pankaj says that they don’t really belong to that category. “There are no kaftans, but the clothes do have a holiday spirit about them,” he says.

The collection, although new, draws heavily from the duo’s 2012 autumn-winter range that was all about Wycinanki, the Polish art form. Traces of signature botanical prints are also part of the range that comprises dresses and tunics. The colour palette boasts of shades such as pop green, fuschia, coral and some pretty whites.
