Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd. (MTNL) has tied up with Atom Technologies,a leading provider of m-commerce solutions,for enabling its customers to make bill payments through mobile or landline phones. MTNL provides telecom services to over 17 lakh customers across Mumbai. Through this service,the customers can make their bill payments instantly through phones,using their credit cards. The Atom platform provides a secure and automated environment to end customers with complete assurance of protection of their credit card details. Peeyush Agrawal,Executive Director,MTNL,said: “Atom’s IVR technology will help our customers have the flexibility of paying their bills at their convenience. We also hope to improve our collections and reduce the default or missed deadlines for bill payments,as customers can now make payments even on the move or from other locations without having to stand in long queues.”

Firing outside an eatery in Agripada

An unidentified man opened fire outside an eatery in Agripada on Wednesday afternoon allegedly in an attempt to target a resident identified as Ismail. The police said nobody was injured in the incident and they are conducting investigation in the case. “Around 5 pm,a single round was fired outside New Udipi Hotel in Agripada. The shooter fled the spot immediately after and is yet to be identified. The bullet hit a refrigerator outside the eatery,” said a police officer. “Preliminary investigations have revealed that the target was a man identified as Ismail,who lives in a building near the eatery,” said the officer.

New fleet cab service from tomorrow

Another fleet taxi operator,Aarya Cabs,will start its services in Mumbai from Friday providing a new option over the rickety black and yellow cabs in the city. Aarya Cabs will start its operations with 30 Maruti Eeco vehicles but gradually plan to operate 100 cabs by the month-end. “We plan to touch 100 cabs on road by June-end. The cars are modified for passenger comfort. The cabs will have different chargers to facilitate laptop or cell phone charging,” said V Gopalkrishnan,CEO of Aarya cabs. The cabs will sport a red and white colour combination,which the company says is going to be more “visible” and “attractive”. They will be nicknamed the red and white brigade and has already started operations in New Delhi on an economy segment with 175 AC Maruti Altos which ferries commuters at a minimum fare of Rs 10. The cabs will operate on the same fare as the other fleet taxi operators in the city.

50-year-old commits suicide in Malad

A 50-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging herself at a rented apartment in Malad (west) on Tuesday. The police have found a suicide note in which she claimed that an acquaintance had sold her flat with her permission but did not give her the money. The victim,Leena Gibson,was staying in flat no 103 of Kingston Classique building located in Chincholi Bunder,Malad (west). The body was found around 11pm after the police was alerted by Gibson’s daughter. Her daughter,who lives on Yari Road in Andheri,went to meet her after Gibson did not return her calls. Despite repeated knocks,when no one answered the door,Gibson’s daughter informed the police.
