Kumar’s trial in Houston put off
The Harris County Criminal Court has postponed the hearing of charges against documentary filmmaker Vijay Kumar to September 8. The court was supposed to hear the case on Friday,but the defence counsel moved a plea to postpone the hearing as criminal laws in Houston call for forfeiture of bond if the accused does not appear in court. “He is still detained in immigration which makes it impossible for him to attend the hearing. The immigration court will be hearing him on September 2,” Kumar’s attorney Grant Scheiner said.
Housewife alleges molestation
A 28-year-old housewife has filed a case against her in-laws and neighbours for allegedly stripping and molesting her a fortnight ago. Byculla police said the incident happened on August 17. Senior inspector Tukaram Godge said the complainant,a resident of Sankalp Siddhi chawl in Byculla,was reportedly beaten up by her mother-in-law for breaking a kitchen utensil. The women in the neighbourhood allegedly tore her clothes and stripped her while men molested her.
Bid for water transport project cleared
The Maharastra State Road Development Corporation board on Friday cleared the sole bid for a Rs 1,200-cr water transport project,envisaging linking of western waterfront from Nariman Pt to Borivali with terminals in Bandra,Juhu,Versova and Marve. A consortium of Pratibha Industries,Kakade Infrastructure and Malaysia-based Inai Kiara was the sole bidder.
