Mumbai’s heavy downpour notwithstanding, top celebs came to be a part of a high-profile fashion event for Shabana Azmi’s NGO,Mijwan Welfare Society,at the Grand Hyatt on Monday. At a show by the film industry’s favourite designer Manish Malhotra,in which all outfits had embroidery done by girls from Mijwan, many celebs walked the ramp in a gesture of solidarity with the cause. Mijwan is based in Shabana’s village Azamgarh in UP and works for the welfare of the people there. She opened the show with Namrata Goyal, her associate in the NGO,followed by Reliance’s Nita Ambani. The latter was accompanied by two young girls — Meghna, who is Shabana’s niece, and Babita from a school run under late poet Kaifi Azmi’s name in Mijwan. A number of celebrities walked the ramp including Priyanka Chopra,Sonakshi Sinha,Malaika Arora Khan,Karan Johar and Imran Khan.
