The man was identified as Kishore Pednekar, 55, and the police found the key of his house fastened to the chain he was wearing.
A couple in Mumbai’s Goregaon (West) was found dead in a five-storey housing society on Friday morning. Police suspect the 55-year-old man, a salesman of gym equipment, died by suicide after he killing his wife.
Inspector in-charge of Goregaon police station Madhusudan Naik said police are awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact cause of the deaths.
According to the Goregaon police, the watchman at a bank’s office on the ground floor of the G+4 floor Topiwala CHS, B-Wing, informed the police control room about a man lying on the society’s premises with a serious head injury.
The man was identified as Kishore Pednekar and the police found the key of his house fastened to the chain he was wearing.
“When the police opened his flat on the third floor of the housing society using the key, they found his wife Rajshree (54) lying in the apartment. She had marks on her neck and blood oozing from her nose and mouth, indicating that she was stangulated,” said a police officer.
Police said Rajashree worked at a physiotherapy centre at Malad Centre.
According to sources in the police, prima facie it seems that Pednekar allegedly strangled her to death in the wee hours of Friday, perhaps after a possible argument, and then, after locking her inside, he allegedly jumped from the third floor of the society.
Probe revealed that before taking the alleged step, he had sent a message to a relative containing details of his bank accounts and properties and informed that his son Yash would be the nominee. He also sent an air ticket to the relative as the couple had planned to go to Delhi, said a police officer.
“Pednekar had depression and was undergoing treatment for the same for the past two years. We are still ascertaining the exact reason behind the incident and the sequence of events,” said a senior police officer.
“The couple’s son, Yash, works in a mobile company in Delhi. We have informed him. He is coming to Mumbai. After his statement is recorded, we will be able to ascertain what could be the cause behind the incident,” said Naik.
Police have sent the bodies to the Trauma Centre, Jogeshwari, for post-mortem and have registered two accidental death reports.
