Two youths foiled a robbery bid by chasing robbers who had looted a delivery boy carrying gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 1.29 crore Wednesday. Scared robbers left the bag containing jewellery and managed to get away.
According to the RAK Marg police,the incident occurred on the RAKidwai Marg at around 2.45 pm.
Shaikh Mehmood,delivery boy for a VP Road based jeweller,was on his way to Mumbai Central Railway Station to catch a train to Delhi when he was intercepted by four men on bikes.
One of them hit him,causing him to drop his bag,which was picked up by the other accused.
Mehmood started shouting for help,and hearing his cries,two passersby – Jitesh Shinde and Kailash Kamble – gave a chase on their bike. They chased the accused for nearly four kilometres before catching up with them. On seeing that Shinde and Kamble would not give up,the accused threw the bag and fled the scene, said Deputy Commissioner of Police Dhananjay Kulkarni,Zone V.
A complaint of attempt to robbery has been registered against unidentified persons under the Indian Penal Code.
Police are investigating the involvement of an insider to find out how accused knew about Mehmoods movements. Sketches are being prepared based on the descriptions provided Mehmood,Shinde and Kamble.
