As many as 246 passengers on board an Indian Air Force aircraft from war-torn Sudan heaved a sigh of relief as the plane touched down at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai at 1 pm Thursday.

“From bullets flying past our ears to bodies burning everywhere, we have seen it all. A total of 27 of us had gone to Sudan for work and luckily all my colleagues were evacuated safely by the Indian Government,” said   one of the passengers, Kunal Sharma, a mechanic who worked for a private company in Sudan.

Adding that he does not plan to return to the strife-torn region soon, Sharma says he had planned to stay in Sudan for two years but had to cut it short in 7 months as the situation worsened in Khartoum.
