Rais Shaikh, the Samajwadi Party corporator of Govandi, said the civic administration must come up with a solution to the issue. “The chief minister and civic administration have been making tall claims about the dumping ground issue but nothing has happened till date,” said Shiakh.

The first major fire at the dumping ground this year broke out on January 28 and lasted an entire week. It led to the Bombay High Court banning new constructions in the city from March 1. After the fire, the civic body installed 12 CCTV cameras at the ground and started erecting a boundary wall around it.
